In Conversation With Design Cafe’s HR Manager, Who Settles For Nothing Less Than Perfection

Accept yourself the way you are, start getting comfortable in your own skin, and life will be a celebration in itself.

With time we have seen many changes in our society, especially with the changing role of women, their take on the world, and how they have evolved both personally and professionally. So here we take you along the journey of Naifa, Design Cafe’s HR Manager. She is ambitious, a go-getter, and a fearless woman who is ever ready to face challenges that life throws at her but refuses to settle down for anything less than what she deserves.

Here is the detailed interview to understand the thoughts of urban independent women like Naifa.

How Does Naifa Celebrate Herself?

There’s no doubt that Naifa believes in celebrating herself. She believes every woman needs to accept herself for who she is, be comfortable in her own skin, and stop looking at herself through the eyes of society. Figuring out who we are, what we like, and what we should change within ourself is essential, but should be for oneself only, she says.

“If people around don’t like something about you, acknowledge it with grace but don’t mould yourself to fit in. Once you start loving yourself the way you are is when you celebrate your true self,” says Naifa.

Her Biggest Source Of Satisfaction At This Stage In Life

After living in a big city like Bengaluru for seven years, Naifa has realised she doesn’t need anyone. She is a strong independent woman who can face any challenge head on, be it personal or professional. This, she says, is the biggest and most significant source of satisfaction.

When asked to define her relationship with herself and she summed it up in two beautifully contrasting words – ‘peaceful and messy.’ It shows her confidence and honesty towards herself and the world at large. She loves herself unapologetically but doesn’t shy away from dealing with her inner conflicts. All of us deal with some level of self-doubt and shortcomings that make our lives a bit messy. However embracing it and moving on makes women like Naifa unique and a true inspiration for others.

What Does Home Mean To Her?

“Home is love,” she says. Born in a family of five people who live together in a 2BHK, home to her is all about sharing every emotion with her two siblings, crying, laughing, and growing up with lots of love, compassion, and togetherness.

Her Take On Women’s Role In Making A House Home

To this, she had a sweet and straightforward answer. The colour and liveliness that women add to a flat make the house a beautiful home.

Her Thoughts On The Evolution Of Women’s Involvement In Home Purchases

Naifa strongly believes that women’s involvement in decisions around home  and home-based purchases  has changed significantly with time. Earlier, women’s decision-making capacity was limited to buying kitchen utensils and home decor, furnishings and linen. Now, they are vocal about the kind of home they want to build for themselves and their family. Women today want to be involved in every aspect of home’s interiors be it wall paint, flooring, furniture to styling every corner.

Her Thoughts On Gender Roles And The Stereotypes That Come Along With It

Though Naifa acknowledges that gender bias is much a reality but she believes it’s one’s choice to let it affect us or fight back. Through her growing years she too dealt with stereotypes of being a woman where she was told what she could and could not do. However, the go-getter in her drove her to pursue her dreams. She believes changing societal mindset might be difficult but worth battling for.

An Advice To Her 20-Year Old Self

Naifa has always been a rebel, but now in retrospect, she thinks it might be good if she had tried harder to convince her parents to let her pursue a Master’s degree in a different city or take up a job. If given a chance to go back in time, she would love to be more open-minded to take people’s advice and ask for help when needed.

Women like Naifa inspire us to fight our own battles, love ourselves unapologetically, and strive to be our best versions. It doesn’t matter what circumstances you are in as long as you do not succumb to it and are ready to fight back. Design Cafe is honored to have such an empowering women workforce who are a great inspiration to us and the society as well.
